Locals World decided we needed to launch Locals World, in our own, and what better place than New York to begin our platforms journey. We were told recently, a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, but what if you're facing the wrong direction?
So, we looked once more at our inner compass and landed on NYC.
One of the "hardest hit" locations in the world, at least that's what the news tells us..., but on many different levels New York was hit hard this year. What can we do you wonder?
We're taking the power back into our own hands, starting with Locals World.
Asking Locals what does their world look like? What is their story? Where are they at currently? What Local Businesses are their favorite #localspots that we can highlight, feature and then ask, "how we can be of service to them?" How can we not only, support local businesses in New York to survive, but thrive in 2020 and as we journey into 2021.
We're #startingsomewhere and we believe you're here to #dreamwithus
Meet our Locals of New York. A group that embodies Local New Yorkers, not only authentic, but hard-working individuals, but the modern millennials that can guide the New Paradigm, and our future generations, as leaders, (not so much influencers and followers).

We asked Shayla to be our first ever, featured Local on Locals World
Shayla embodies the Local New Yorker & is a part of a beautiful women-owned business
Shayla was actually the first Local New Yorker we supported this summer, when we took the drive into NYC to support @whiterosecollective, taking them up on their offer of sliding-scale "Unemployment Haircuts," which is the perfect bitter sweet offer to take a walk down memory lane of the streets of Manhattan, forever known as the Concrete Jungle.
LOCAL SHAYLA
Bushwick, Brooklyn
Locals Passions: Candle making, meditating, baking, and getting outside!
Locals go-to F&B: Eating my way through Bushwick is one of my favorite pass times. An ideal night would start with cocktails at The Narrows and progress to dinner at Bunna Cafe. The Narrows has the cutest outdoor patio, and Bunna has THE most delicious vegan Ethiopian food I’ve ever had in my life.
Notes: These are right across the street from each other! Try the vegan White Russian cocktail from Bunna. All the yum, sans dairy!
Locals go-to Hidden Gem: Circo’s pastry shop. A Bushwick staple that has been open since 1945 that seems to not have been touched by time. I ALWAYS have a sweet tooth, and this is my go-to for a fix.
Notes: Bring a blanket, get your treats to go, and snack at Maria Hernandez park (right across the street!)
Locals Style (L TRAIN VINTAGE): I live down the street from the BEST L train vintage (biased, but people agree!). I see kids riding the train to my stop and you just know they are going for a thrift hunt. Another favorite is Friends. This is my spot when I need to get a gift for friends (and myself!)
Notes: As with any thrift adventure, the earlier you go, the better. Gotta get first dibs on the pieces!
Locals go-to for supporting local business:
Wild Oleander is a beautiful Black female owned nail studio, they give the BEST gel manicure. #localssupportinglocals
Book an "on trend/ on season" spooky political appt. with Wild Oleander BK
Pro-tip (literally): Bio notes @wild_oleadner uses @kokoistusa
"Semi-hard, soak-off nail gel from Tokyo, fast becoming one of the favorite gels for nail techs in Japan and worldwide."
Images captured from @wild_oleander IG feed.
I still stop into my old hood for my old favorites from time to time, Drip Coffee for a morning treat and Cafe Erzulie for a night time treat. #treatyourself
Notes: Cafe Erzulie has a beautiful patio, and they do jazz night every Thursday!
