Locals World: Local New Yorker in West Village

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Dreaming about the streets of the West Village? When it comes to late Fall in NYC, there's honestly few better places to wander. Around most corners, townhouses are decorated to the nines and shops are filled with creative local artists, picture a woman that paints peoples dogs for a living, and artisan goods. At least, that's our memory of this time, last year- 2019.

A walk down memory lane.... circa 2019

We wandered into The Meadow - @themeadow, known for their salts, chocolates, bitters (Scorpion Bitter #scorpioseason) and shots of shrub on the house w/ the owner. We faintly remember them also offering a wine club? Something to look into... We ended the day with hot cider at The Standard - @TheStandard, a personal favorite as a hotel, retail shop, food and for their seasonal ice rink. For that 8'o clock "bite" we ended the day at SUGARFISH #NowazaStyle.

The same 24hrs
What we recommend: In TriBeca, we had a post- going out all night, french toast feast, also known as "brunch," (breakfast + lunch) at Locanda Verde - @locandaverde. For the record, we don't "brunch" often in New York City. We typically enjoy our Sunday's in nature above the city, but Locanda Verde is well worth the exception.
What we don't recommend: We stayed at The Dream Hotel in meatpacking, which was definitely a vibe of it's own to say the least. On top of attempting Gitano Jungle. Neither of which we recommend as a go-to #localspot for #localsworld, but cheers to who frequents there anyway! We ended up at a dive bar which always works in our favor.

Back to the present, meet our Local New Yorker in the West Village, with her Minnesota accent and always down-to-have-fun bright attitude.

We met working in the corporate office of Topshop, before it closed, NYC Press Intern and Social Media Intern, where we used to laugh hysterically in our private back room filled with racks of patent leather pants and garments to be sent out for A-list celebs Vogue shoots, hey Kim K. Since then we've grown in and out of more suitable careers, mine in sustainable fashion and hers in Digital at KCD, the leading fashion services agency worldwide, which included many red carpet celeb encounters @kendalljenner being one. #startsomewhere

Also since then, fast forward 3 years, Alexandra's gone through the motions of many upgrades. Recently moving to the West Village, right across from "Carrie Bradshaw," the New York City icon from Sex and The City. A dream for many... Her position as Account Exec. in Advertising Sales: "Manages a pipeline of local businesses throughout a US region," #supportlocalbusiness #localssupportinglocal, we know for a fact Alexandra is the perfect embodiment of the hardworking Local New Yorker/ Modern Millennial, embracing every opportunity she can get a hold of... #divinefeminine

This is Locals World and we present you with YOUR LOCAL BFF for NYC, West Village edition.

LOCAL ALEXANDRA

West Village, NYC

~ Account Executive in Advertising Sales at Yelp~ Locals Passions: Fashion, photography, and pretty much all things creative, excite me and inspire me in my day-to-day life. I also love to workout and am fascinated by nutrition, which stems from my time spent as a college swimmer.

Locals go-to F&B: Merriweather Coffee + Kitchen Situated on Morton and Hudson, Merriweather serves as my go-to neighborhood coffee shop.

Notes: They have adapted well to the outdoor seating gig. Many locals, during the warmer months, set up camp here for their WFH office. Even though the temps have dropped, it's still a great place to work while enjoying a cup of coffee and breakfast.

Extra Virgin (Locals Note*** women-owned #BLM) Sant Ambroseous (Locals Note*** coffee bar by SA Hospitality Group: CASA LEVER, FELICE)

Notes: Two West Village staples, located right next to each other on Perry and Bleecker. Very quaint with a warm and cozy setting. Think candles and twinkling lights. Perfect for brunch or a romantic date night!

Locals go-to Hidden Gem: Grove Court

As many have said, "The best things in life are free." I couldn't agree more. I'm a wanderer and love to explore the city in my free time. I discovered Grove Court last year as I was strolling through the West Village looking at Halloween decorations.
Notes: This charming, private courtyard is surrounded by old townhomes, some of which are owned by celebrities such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Take a peek this holiday season to see how they decorate.
***Locals World Note: A perfectly COVID-safe activity!!

Hidden Gem #2: Casa Magazine - Looking for a photo opp? Casa Magazine is one of the most instagrammable (and instagrammed) spots in the city. The tiny shop is home to over 2,500 titles from all over the world #localsworld and serves as a perfect backdrop, especially for fashion lovers. It's fun to dig, too, as you can find treasures such as vintage Vogues dating back to the 90's.

Locals Style:

*** Locals World Note: Local has yet to discover her go-to retail shops in West Village since recently moving to the area. We recommend searching for "West Village: A Store By Me" on Google Maps! Instead, here's a fun fact to get to know our Local,
I love listening to old music. Whether it’s 60s, 70s, 80s I’m here for it all. 😛 sometimes I think I was born in the wrong time period. #relateable #pastlives

Go-To For Supporting Local Business (COVID-19)/BLM: Pop the Cork Wine Merchants - I know it seems simple, but since Covid started I've been trying to buy more of my weekly "essentials" from local businesses.

Notes: I love my wine so I transitioned from buying it at places such as Trader Joe's or Target, and switched over to support my local wine store down the block. It's super small and the wine is organized by country. My favorite wine I have discovered thus far has been a Sauvigon Blanc from Italy (and it was only $17.99!). I highly suggest checking out your local bodega, wine store, etc. for your weekly needs.
